Death mechanism of amniotic fluid embolism was inclined to anaphylactic shock: a case report

چکیده
A 38-year-old woman (Gestation 2, Production 1) was admitted to hospital for awaiting delivery for her conceiving for 41+1 weeks and experiencing abdominal pain for 1 day. Typical clinical manifestations of allergic shock performed twice on her respectively during the process of labour and after complete curettage of uterine cavity, and she died soon after the second event. So it was believed that the cause of maternal death was surely amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) according to the findings of forensic pathology autopsy and histopathological examination combined with the details of this case, but her clinical manifestations before death suggested that the death mechanism of amniotic fluid embolism was more likely to be allergic shock rather than pulmonary embolism.

Although amniotic fluid embolism is a rare event, but it is a tragic event. This kind of embolism occurs in 1 per 20,000 to 30,000 births with 86% maternal mortality rate in the United States. Amniotic fluid embolism is in charge of near 10-15% of all maternal deaths. This article reflects the experiences of a Nurse Midwife encountered with a maternal and neonatal death due to an amniotic flu...

Amniotic fluid embolism is a rare, yet catastrophic event. In the United States it occurs in 1 per 20,000 to 30,000 births. With an 86% maternal mortality rate, amniotic fluid embolism is responsible for 10-15% of all maternal deaths. This article presents a case study of a CNM's experience with a maternal and fetal death resulting from an amniotic fluid embolism. Pathogenesis and appropriate m...

We describe the successful resuscitation of a parturient who developed cardiovascular collapse immediately after cesarean delivery most likely due to amniotic fluid embolism, based on the clinical presentation and later confirmed by exclusion. Aggressive therapy was instituted right away including early administration of vasopressin. Care continued in a critical care setting and she recovered c...
متن کاملLipid Emulsion Rescue of Amniotic Fluid Embolism-Induced Cardiac Arrest: A Case Report.
Amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is a rare and often fatal complication that occurs in the peripartum period. We present a patient with an AFE who developed disseminated intravascular coagulation and cardiovascular collapse who may have benefitted from intravascular lipid emulsion rescue. This is the first published case in which lipid emulsion was a part of the successful treatment of AFE.

Amniotic fluid embolism was first recognized in 1926, in a Brazilian journal case report, on the basis of large amounts of fetal material in the maternal pulmonary vasculature at autopsy. The first English language description appeared in 1941 and consisted of eight parturients dying suddenly in which, once again, fetal material was seen in the pulmonary vasculature. A control group of 34 pregn...
